Jeffrey T. Mitchell
(Brookhaven National Laboratory, USA):
"Searching for the QCD Critical Point with the RHIC Beam Energy Scan
Program"

Kivonatos ismertetes:
Lattice Quantum Chromodynamics studies predict that there exists a critical
point in the QCD phase diagram. The Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC)
at Brookhaven National Laboratory has initiated a beam energy scan program
in order to experimentally adjust the temperature and baryochemical potential
in heavy ion collisions in an attempt to discover the location of the QCD
critical point. RHIC data have established that a strongly coupled Quark-Gluon
Plasma (sQGP) is being produced at the top RHIC energies, where the system
behaves much like that of a perfect fluid of quarks with a temperature
exceeding the predicted critical temperature for a phase transition to the
sQGP. The RHIC experiments strive to measure the onset of the sQGP properties
in the colliding system and look for signatures of critical behavior as a
function of colliding beam energy. The latest results and current status of
the RHIC beam energy scan program will be discussed.
