Abstract:
The DarkSide-50 direct dark matter search at LNGS just released its first
batch of results and is, today, the sole dark matter search running in a
background-free condition. The Borexino solar neutrino experiment has
reached the lowest background from radioactive contaminants on Earth and has
measured every single source of solar neutrinos with the exception of CNO
neutrinos.
I will discuss introduce the results of DarkSide and Borexino. I will
discuss in detail new techniques for isotopic separation of 3He and 40Ar
developed within the DarkSide collaboration. I will explain the crucial role
of these techniques in launching at LNGS a world-class program for
exploration of dark matter and neutrinoless double beta decay, and for the
precision measurement of solar neutrinos.
