Kivonat:

Generation of K-alpha photons by fast electrons from
ultrashort pulse lasers have attracted recently some attention.
These photons provide an x-ray source that is localized in its
spatial, temporal as well as spectral characteristics.
Proposed applications include their use for both scientific and
commercial purposes.
A computational study is presented, whose aim is the
optimization of the emission rate of the K-alpha photons from
various materials. A popularized introduction is given for
audience not familiar with the details of laser-plasma
interactions.
