ELTE Fizikai Intézet, Anyagfizikai Tanszék TANSZÉKI SZEMINÁRIUM 2017. március 7., kedd, 8:30-kor ELTE, Pázmány Péter sétány 1/A alatti épületében, 4.52 (Sas Elemér) teremben Anthony C. Fischer-Cripps (Fischer-Cripps Laboratories Pty Ltd, Sydney, Australia) Harder than Diamond: What happens when the world wants to believe. Cold Fusion, Weapons of Mass Destruction, and Materials Harder than Diamond. The world wanted to believe, and so funding poured in. But the truth can only be revealed by actual observation under scientific conditions. In 1999, a scientist in Germany claimed to be the first to produce a hard coating that was harder than natural diamond. This work led to some 15 years of funded research, awards, prizes, and honours for those involved, but resulted in not one single sample that has been independently verified as meeting the claim. In the present talk, the speaker shall explain what was claimed and the evidence produced to support it, and show that the whole scenario was based on nothing more than a desire to believe. The issue brings into question not only the scientific aspects of the matter, but the role of editors and the process of peer review in the publication of scientific research. Minden érdeklődőt szívesen várunk. A szemeszter szemináriumainak programja megtalálható a http://metal.elte.hu honlapon a Szemináriumok címszó alatt Kovács Zsolt
