Quantum dissipative systems
via bosonisation of fermion gas-impurity models

Abstract:
Solvable models of one dimensional fermion gases interacting with magnetic
impurities can be interpreted as quantum dissipative systems via
bosonisation techniques. The most famous instance is the transcription
between the spin-1/2 anisotropic Kondo model, and the so-called spin-boson
model (a spin-1/2 system with ohmic coupling to an oscillator bath). We
review this construction, and generalise it to several new cases. These
include an elliptic version of the Kondo model, and a three-component
fermion gas model. The corresponding quantum dissipative systems will be
described, and prospects for the analysis of their properties using the
exact fermion gas solution will be discussed.
