Dear Igor,

It’s been very sad to learn about Yuri Kagan’s passing away.
I should kindly ask you to convey my deep-felt condolences on to Yuri’s 
family, colleagues and friends.
I have unforgettable remembrances of Yuri, when I first met him on the 
occasion of the Russian-German bilateral Seminar on Mössbauer Spectroscopy at 
the Monastery Suzdal in 1984, and immediately following the invitation to an 
evening party at his private home in Moscow, where I was overwhelmed by the 
finest collection of paintings of the Russian Avantgarde I have ever seen.
Among other outstanding contributions to the theory of condensed matter 
physics, his name will be tightly connected specifically with developments to 
the theory of the Mössbauer Effect.

Dear Mossbauer community,

We inform with deep regret that on June 4, Yuri Kagan passed away.
The cause of death was cancer, from which he has been intensively treated 
lately.
Attached is our obituary in memory of Professor Yuri Kagan.
