Absztrakt:
Highly charged ions (HCIs) provide a unique platform for precision studies of
nuclear structure and fundamental physics in extreme electromagnetic fields.
Over the past decade, our work has demonstrated that spectroscopy of
quasi-hydrogenic highly charged ions can provide a powerful new approach for
measuring nuclear charge radii and probing nuclear structure with high
sensitivity and reduced systematic uncertainties. The method combines
high-accuracy ab initio atomic-structure calculations with precision
spectroscopy of Na-like ions produced and trapped in electron beam ion traps
(EBITs). The strong enhancement of nuclear-size effects in heavy HCIs
substantially relaxes the required spectroscopic resolution while enabling
access to very heavy and short-lived nuclei.
I will present recent developments in EUV and x-ray spectroscopy of highly
charged ions, including measurements of isotope shifts, absolute nuclear
charge radii, and cross-element constraints in heavy nuclei. These studies
have direct relevance to tests of quantum electrodynamics (QED), nuclear
deformation, electric-dipole-moment-sensitive nuclei, atomic parity
non-conservation, and future nuclear-clock systems such as 229Th.
The seminar will also discuss emerging opportunities at the interface of EBIT
spectroscopy and coherent EUV science. In particular, the combination of
next-generation EBIT platforms with coherent extreme-ultraviolet and
high-harmonic-generation (HHG) sources opens new possibilities for absolute
EUV calibration, coherent spectroscopy of highly charged ions, pump-probe
studies in extreme electromagnetic fields, and future precision measurements
beyond the limits of conventional grating spectroscopy. These developments
suggest a new scientific direction connecting highly charged ions, coherent
EUV spectroscopy, and frontier studies of nuclear structure and fundamental
physics.
