Radio emission of high-redshift active galactic nuclei

Active galactic nuclei (AGN) are the compact central regions found in galaxy 
centres. Through the process of matter accretion onto the supermassive black 
hole, AGN are luminous at all wavebands of the electromagnetic spectrum. 
About one-tenth of the cases, a pair of powerful plasma jets is formed 
accompanied by synchrotron radio emission. However, when examining the 
population at the highest redshifts, this fraction seems to fall behind. The 
underlying reasons of this discrepancy can be studied both via statistical 
analyses on large AGN-samples, and by thoroughly examining individual objects 
utilising very long baseline interferometry observations. In this seminar 
talk, I present our findings in the quest of revealing the nature of the 
presence and absence of radio emission of AGN from the earliest epochs of the 
Universe.
