The title of presentation:
The Tewati laser system and its applications:
laser-generated neutrons, laser cutting, and x-ray computer tomography
Short abstract of the presentation:
In this talk, I will present the third-generation of the laser systems, operating now at 100Hz repetition rate, ever built at Tewati Lab.
In the so-called short-pulse branch, pulses with a duration of 9 fs and an energy of 0.2 mJ are generated. In the high-intensity branch, after the installation of the compressor chamber, pulses with an intensity of one and a half TW at a central wavelength of 800 nm are to be achieved. The laser system has already been successfully used to develop an ultra-thin, several hundred nm thick liquid jet target system, which is a key component of the laser neutron source designed and built by the National Laser Transmutation Laboratory. Femtosecond precision cutting was also developed to manufacture another key component, the neutron converter.
In the frame of the Cooperative Technologies National Laboratory, high-intensity laser pulses from the Tewati laser were directed onto a tape target system to produce X-rays. We will be using the laser-generated X-rays to take computed tomography (CT) images of drone components.
There will be an opportunity for a visit to the laboratory at the end of the seminar.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
Dr. Mária Csete
