Absztrakt
Microstructural features including dislocation density, crystal size, and other defects control the mechanical response, e.g., strength, ductility etc. of materials. Neutron and x-ray diffraction provide the ability to quantitatively and non-destructively determine several microstructural features that can subsequently be used in microstructure aware models to predict materials performance. Many different features of diffraction peaks like breadths, shape, asymmetry, shifts or hkl anisotropy can be related to lattice defect properties confirmed by different electron microscopy methods. The power of diffraction peak or line profile analysis (LPA) will be demonstrated by showing the determination of lattice defect densities and types in plastically deformed and neutron or proton irradiated structural materials. Several examples will show how constructively complementary the LPA method can be to electron microscopy.
