Subject: PiA - Physics in Advent - registration open

Dear all,

  as member of the steering committee of the German Physics Society
steering committee, responsible for outreach, and physics professor at
the University of Goettingen I set up the following project, which I
would also like to offer to and your national community. I now wonder if
you could possibly so kind to distribute the information to teachers,
schools and your local and national outreach team so that your high
school students get to know it, register, participate and win.

Since 2013, we offer the project "PiA - physics in advent",
http://www.physik-im-advent.de It is a physics Xmas calendar, where high
school students (or now also "normal adults") register in November. In
December, we describe a little physics experiment every day as youtube
movie. The participants do the experiment (with typical household type
material at home or at school), figure out what happens and enter their
result as multiple choice on our web page. We show the solution the next
day again by youtube and ask a new question. After the 24th, they have
collected up to 24 points, can download a certificate from our web page
and the best participants can win prizes: individuals can win ipods,
books, experiment sets etc. If they register as school class, they can
in addition win vouchers for science museums, planetariums etc. And as a
whole school, they can win in addition experiment sets for the school or
an outreach physics show by the "Physikanten".

Last year, we had 26,000 registered participants and 35,000 daily
visitors on our web page http://www.physik-im-advent.de

facebook entries etc. got last year in total 1,24 Million clicks. We
have recorded all videos for this year already. This year, for the
second time, we also offer the project in German and English. Flyers and
posters are on the web page http://www.physik-im-advent.de  There, you
can also order printed flyers and posters from the contact form. See also

The project will soon also be advertised on the EPS web page and will be
in their next newsletter. It would be great if we could also reach
physicists, teachers and students in your country. Do you have an
opportunity to inform teachers and school students or is there some
national contact for outreach etc.?
