CERIC-ERIC, the European Distributed Research Infrastructure for Nano-level Analysis and preparation of Materials and Biomaterials opens a new call for proposals. CERIC offers access to more than 40 different and complementary state of the art techniques, distributed in 7 different countries. It allows users to combine a wide range of methods for sample preparation and analysis in a flexible and project oriented way, through multi-technique proposals. A detailed description of the facilities available in CERIC can be found in http://ceric-eric.eu/index.php?n=Users.Facilities
What is new in this call
1- Two Steps deadline
Taking into account the difficulties that some users experience in writing detailed and successful proposals already meeting the required standards for each of the techniques requested, we are offering a two steps deadline, and a technical support. The first deadline for proposals submission will be followed by a technical evaluation. Those proposals meeting the required standards will be directly forwarded to the scientific evaluation (and the proposers will be notified). The proposers of those proposals which are missing some technical information, will be informed, allowing the improvement of the contents before the final submission with a further ten days deadline. To this purpose, the possibility to directly interact with the scientists in charge of the requested facilities will be offered when appropriate.
2-Single instrument proposals now possible:
Another novelty is the possibility to submit single-instrument proposals for those facilities where there are no other channels for open access available, namely: Light Scattering Laboratory and SAXS facility in Graz, HRTEM and EPR facilities in Bucharest, XPD, Near Ambient Pressure XPS and FESEM facilities in Prague and Tandem accelerator facility in Zagreb (see descriptions in http://ceric-eric.eu/index.php?n=Users.Facilities).
3- New facilities offered on a trial basis:
The Italian Partner Facility will provide in this call, on a trial basis, also access to mass spectrometry facilities in Trento (see technical description in http://ceric-eric.eu/index.php?n=Users.Facilities).
4- New instruments available: NAP XPS
The Near Ambient Pressure (NAP) XPS system will be available in the SPL laboratory in Prague for XPS operando studies. The NAP XPS facility will be equipped with an UHV and NAP XPS analysis chambers, preparation and load lock chambers, a sputter gun, LEED, a flood gun and monochromatised Ka X-ray source. NAP analysis can be performed up to 50 mbar pressure.
How to apply
Access to CERIC is open to scientists from all over the world and free of charge for academic and non-proprietary research. Proposals shall be submitted online through the Virtual Unified Office (VUO). The best projects are selected by peer review through an independent and international panel of experts. For further information about the evaluation and how to submit successful proposals please use the menu on the left.
The only condition for free access is the publication of the results obtained through the use of the facilities , with appropriate reference to the facilities and local scientific and technical support involved.
The deadline for proposals submission is on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1st 17:00 CET.
