"Landau Level Spectroscopy in BiTeI"


We have studied the bulk electron dispersion in the polar semiconductor BiTeI by infrared magneto-optical spectroscopy [1]. A series of inter-LL transitions with square root B field dependence, characteristic of Dirac electrons, were observed when the Fermi energy was close to the intersection of the spin-polarized bands (Dirac point). The cyclotron resonance can be detected even at room temperature, indicating a large energy gap between the lowest LLs. The magnetic field dependence of the LLs are compared with the results of first-principles band structure and analytic calculations.
