When it came to being a physicist, Einstein was quite explicit 
about his long and careful study of the philosophy and history of 
science as being most influential in making him an independent thinker. 
Something of an outlier in this as in so many things, Einstein was, 
however, not as different from his scientific contemporaries as he is
from 
the typical scientist of today in being so well read in Kant, Hume,
Spinoza, and Schopenhauer.

Einstein repeatedly urged the inclusion of history and philosophy 
of science in the training of young physicists. In this respect, 
it is noteworthy that one very prominent contemporary physicist, 
Lee Smolin, has recently urged * in his book The Trouble with Physics *
exactly the same revision in physics education as a remedy for what he
sees as 
the lack of progress in fundamental physics over the last 30 years.

Einstein levelet idez, melyet Einstein egy fiatal fizikusnak 
R. A. Thortonnak írt, akinek meghiusult terve, hogy filozofiaorakkal 
egeszitse ki fizikusi tanulmanyait.

"Tökéletesen egyetértek önnel abban, hogy a tudomány metodologiaja,
csakugy, mint tortenelme es filozofiaja, mennyire jelentos es az
oktatas szempontjabol mennyire hasznos. Manapsag oly sok ember
tunik szamomra olyannak, akik ugyan mar ezer fat lattak, de
egytelen egy erdot sem. A torteneti es filozofiai hatter ismerete
biztositja a fuggetlenseget generacionk eloiteleteitol,
melyben a legtobb tudos szenved."

Nem tennek hozza magamtol semmit.
Vitazzanak akik akarnak Howarddal, Smolinnal vagy Einsteinnel.
De az erveket es ellenerveket 2014-ben is szivesen fogom olvasni.
