Dear Colleague,

You are kindly invited to participate in the Summer School entitled
"Exact and Numerical Models of Low-Dimensional Quantum Structures"
to be held at the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Physics
(http://itap-tthv.org), Dereozu Campus, in Turunc, Marmaris, Turkey, from
August 4-12, 2013.

For specific information please see the website for the summer school:
http://itap-tthv.org/applforms/poster.php?code=551670

Aims and scope: This summer school will give participants the
opportunity to acquire a deep understanding of both the concepts and the
practical aspects of solving problems in the physics of
low-dimensional systems. Very often, when students first encounter
problems of this type, they are put off by the complexity of the
mathematics of the solutions. One of the aims of this school is to help
students overcome this barrier, and present a clear breakdown of the
concepts underlying some of the exact solutions in one and
two-dimensional models, both from an analytic and a numerical point of
view. Particular focus will be placed on the Bethe ansatz solution of
one-dimensional quantum models, but the picture will be more general,
including the algebraic generalization of the Bethe ansatz for
two-dimensional classical models (Ising model), as well as numerical
approaches such as DMRG. The lectures will be accompanied by an
exercise session, in which relevant derivations, or simple numerical
exercises will be performed.

Target audience: Graduate students or post-docs working in the field
of low-dimensional systems, many-body theory, preferably with some
experience in graduate level quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, and
many-body physics. Research experience is a plus but not
necessary.

Specific goals: This summer school will bring together researchers who
study low-dimensional systems. Particular emphasis will be placed on
integrable systems and the Bethe ansatz, but to broaden the scope of the
school a set of lectures on related topics, the Luttinger liquids and the
density matrix renormalization group will also be included. Basic lectures
will present the coordinate Bethe ansatz, applied to fundamental models
such as the Lieb-Liniger gas, XXZ Heisenberg, Kondo, Yang-Gaudin, and
Hubbard models. A discussion of the relation between two-dimensional
classical vertex models and the basis of the algebraic Bethe ansatz will
follow. Lectures will also cover the application of the Bethe ansatz to a
range of topics of recent interest, such as the Tavis-Cummings model used
in quantum optics, the Richardson-Gaudin model applied to mesoscopic
systems, systems far from equilibrium, quantum quench dynamics, and
magnetism of cold bosons. All lectures will be followed by an exercise
session.

What participants will get out of this school:
- meet with world experts in the fields of many-body physics -
conceptual foundations for methods used in low dimensional physics

- exercises to reinforce lectures on these methods
- practical experience with some of the numerical methods used
in the field
- wonderful environment near the Aegean sea, campus in a
scenic rural setting
