   The Velocity Distribution in Homogeneous Isotropic Turbulence

 The single-point probability density function of the velocity 
 in stationary and decaying homogeneous isotropic turbulence is
 investigated.  To this end the statistical framework of the
 Lundgren-Monin-Novikov hierarchy combined with conditional averaging 
 is applied, leading to the identification of the quantities that 
 determine the shape of the probability density function. It turns 
 out that the statistical correlation of the velocity with the rate 
 of energy dissipation and pressure contributions play a key role.
