        "Reduced symmetry fluids: mysteries and opportunities"

        Complex fluids composed of molecules with lower
        symmetry exhibit a wide variety of mesomorphic phases,
        each of which is characterized by its own symmetry
        properties. In this presentation, I concentrate on
        those phases which possess purely orientational symmetry,
        and review their unexpected and potentially important
        physical properties. Possible mechanisms such as the
        presence of supermolecular aggregates with even lower
        symmetry are presented as candidates for explaining
        the observed behavior.
