"Symmetry and Jahn-Teller effect in fullerene-based materials"
Abstract: Highly symmetric platonic formations can be realized based
on
carbon, as the icosahedral fullerene or the cubic cubane and their
combinations. This talk will focus on the distortions of such systems
caused by crystal field, electron-phonon interactions and chemical
modification. The method of choice is vibrational spectroscopy, as
vibrational structures are highly sensitive to symmetry. I will show
examples
of static and dynamic Jahn-Teller effect, symmetry changes on doping
and on
polymerization.
