IX International Conference on Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions (NN2006)
August 28 - September 1, 2006, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

We are happy to announce that the next International Conference on
Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions (NN2006) will be held in Brazil, August
28-September 1, 2006. As a member of the Nuclear Physics community you
are cordially invited to attend the NN2006.

The site of the meeting will be the city of Rio de Janeiro. The
conference will be held at the Rio Othon Palace Hotel, situated at the
sea front of the world famous Copacabana Beach.

The Nucleus-Nucleus meetings have been held regularly, under the
auspices and support of IUPAP. The NN2000 was held in
Strasbourg-France, and the last one, NN2003, was held in
Moscow-Russia. The average attendance of these meetings is slightly
over 400, and we are hoping to surpass this number. The C12 (Nuclear
Physics) Committee of IUPAP has recommended the IUPAP sponsorship of
our meeting.

Some topical miniworkshops are being planned during the two days
preceding NN2006. They will be announced in the webpage within the

Proceedings and booklet of abstracts, the welcome reception, the
conference banquet and all coffee breaks.

The conference fee for accompanying persons is US$ 100 and includes
the conference banquet and coffeee breaks.

There will be a special reduced fee for students. Furthermore, the
organizing committee encourages the participation of students and
young scientists by making available some limited financial support
to cover part of the local expenses.

VENUE AND ACCOMMODATIONS
------------------------

Copacabana district is the main tourist district in Rio de Janeiro,
with several hotels of different prices and categories, within a
walking distance from the site of the conference (Rio Othon Palace
Hotel). We encourage the participants to make their reservations
through our website, since the organizers were able to obtain
discount prices for the participants in the hotels of the Othon chain.

Rio Othon Palace Hotel is a first class hotel situated at the Avenida
Atlantica, at the sea front. The room rate per night, including
breakfast, is US$ 120 per single or double occupancy. Apartments with
front sea view cost US$ 135. Taxes of 15% will be added.

Less expensive but very comfortable hotels, within a walking distance
from the Rio Othon Palace, are also available: California Othon and
Savoy Othon ? price: US$ 70 for single or double occupancy, with
breakfast. Taxes of 15% will be added. Information about these hotels
can be found in the webpage.

TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
-------------------

Rio de Janeiro is a very busy tourist and business city served by
several airlines linking this city with all parts of the world. In
addition there are many flights to Sao Paulo and a very efficient air
shuttle service between Sao Paulo and Rio.

The international airport in Rio (Antonio Carlos Jobim airport ?
Galeao airport) is situated around 30 minutes from Copacabana district.
Special transportation will be available for the participants of the
NN2006 from the airport to the conference site during the day of August
27. A meeting place will be arranged at the main Hall. Look for the
sign ?NN2006?. The cost of the transportation will be about US$ 10 per
person. Upon request, this kind of transportation can be arranged before
August 27.

For those coming from the shuttle flight from Sao Paulo, the flights
are between the central airports Congonhas (Sao Paulo) and Santos
Dumont (Rio). Santos Dumont airport is located at Rio?s city center,
10 minutes from Copacabana. A taxi from the airport to the hotel costs
about US$ 15 (Note: in Brazil, tips of about 10% are usual for
restaurants and taxis).

VISAS
-----

Citizens of some nationalities are required a visa to enter Brazil.
Please, check if you need a visa before you come.

WEATHER
-------

Although August is winter time in Rio de Janeiro, this means that the
temperature ranges between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius. The weather is
usually very pleasant and sunny. You should bring light clothes and
swim clothes. Eventually there might come a cold front which brings
rain during two or three days and the temperature may drop to 17
degrees, not less than that.

SOCIAL EVENTS, ACCOMPANYING PERSON?S PROGRAMME, PRE AND POST TOURS
------------------------------------------------------------------

On August 27, Sunday evening, there will be a Welcome reception at the
Conference site. On August 30, Wednesday afternoon, we will organize a
tour to famous tourist sites in Rio de Janeiro, including the world
famous Sugar Loaf. Please find more information about this and other
tours at: www.nn2006.com.br/tour.php
On August 31, Thursday evening, there will be the conference banquet at
one of the famous barbeque restaurants in Rio, the ?Porcao?. The
banquet will consist of a ?Rodizio?, which means that you will be
continuously served with different kinds of meat, with as much variety
as you would like. There will also be a large variety of sea food and
salads. After dinner there will be a show with one of the main
Brazilian dancers, Carlinhos de Jesus and his group, when several
Brazilian rhythms will be shown (participants will be allowed to sing
and dance with the band).

We are aware that it will be very difficult for the participants of
the NN2006 to resist crossing the street and go for a swim or just
get some sun in Copacabana beach. So, in order to allow the
participants to do so without missing the talks, we are programming a
long lunch break.

For the accompanying persons we have arranged several possibilities of
day tours in Rio and in neighbouring towns and islands. You can find
these options on the webpage.

Brazil is a very large country with different places to visit. This
may be a good opportunity to the participants and their families to
visit Brazil. Among the sites to be visited there is the Amazon
region and its rain forests, the Pantanal region, plenty of wild life,
the majestic Iguassu Falls, the North East region with its
crystalline warm water beaches (the incredible Fernando de Noronha
beach, Maceio etc) and historical cities of Salvador (Bahia) and
Recife, plenty of folklore and typical music. The cheapest way to see
some of those places is to buy the Brazilian air pass, which can be
bought only outside Brazil. We will also organize some pre or
post-conference tours, to either tropical islands and beach resorts or
historic towns. Please, for information about tours, contact Natalie
Graue from Matriz de Eventos, our official representative by the
e-mail:
natalie AT matrizdeeventos.com.br.
