A PhD position in the field of characterization of nanostructured materials 
and development of new nanoanalytical techniques for materials 
characterization is immediately available in the Research Institute for 
Electron Microscopy at the Graz University of Technology, Graz, Austria and 
may last up to 3 years.

Qualified candidates should have a strong background in physics, materials 
science or chemistry and some knowledge in analytical electron microscopy. 
It will be considered an advantage if the candidate has some experimental 
experience of high resolution electron microscopy or electron energy-loss 
spectrometry.

FELMI-ZFE is a center for electron microscopy where materials science as 
well as life science is covered. This leads to a wide range of materials to 
be investigated especially via electron energy-loss spectrometry (EELS) and 
high resolution TEM and STEM methods but as well using diffraction methods.

For the microscopy work a broad range of leading edge TEMs is available, 
e.g. a Tecnai 12, a CM20 with GIF, EDX and a scanning unit; and a Tecnai 
F20 ST with monochromator, HR-energy-filter, EDXS and a STEM/HAADF unit.
