NUCLEAR THEORY POSTDOCTORAL POSITION

North Carolina State University (NCSU)

The NCSU nuclear theory group invites applications for a research associate
(post-doctoral) position beginning fall 2003 in high energy theoretical
nuclear physics. Although the term of the appointment is officially one
year it is expected, subject to mutual agreement, that it will be renewed
for several years (three, maybe more) to permit completion of a challenging,
high impact project.

Candidates should have a strong, working knowledge of QCD and hadron
structure combined with an interest in research activities at Jefferson Lab
where the NCSU program is oriented. Preference will be given to recent
Ph.D. graduates and/or theorists in the early post-doctoral careers.

The nuclear theory group consists of five faculty, three research associates,
six graduate students and, for the last several years, a visiting theorist.
The program is well supported by both state and national sources including
continuing grants from the U. S. Department of Energy. Computational
facilities
are extensive including several workstations, a Beowulf cluster with 42
processors
and abundant time provided by the North Carolina Supercomputer Center and
Livermore supercomputers, both having state-of-the-art parallel and vector
machines. Finally,
we have good connections with theorists at the other two Triangle
universities (UNC
and Duke) which is anchored by a weekly Nuclear Theory Seminar series that
rotates
among the three physics departments.

Additional program information is on the web under URL

http://www2.ncsu.edu/ncsu/pams/physics/NTG/.

Applicants should submit a CV, publication list, statement of research
interests, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to:

Professor Stephen Cotanch
Department of Physics
N. C. State University
Raleigh, NC 27695-8202.

or by email to :
cotanch AT ncsu.edu

NCSU is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.
