Postdoctoral position
The FOM Institute for Plasma Physics 'Rijnhuizen', the Netherlands, in
particular the Magnetohydrodynamics group led by Prof.Dr. J.P. (Hans)
Goedbloed, has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral position in an
international collaboration between eight European institutes on
"Plasma Astrophysics: Theory, Observations, and Numerics"
[PLATON, see http://www-solar.mcs.st-and.ac.uk/~thomas/platon/]
According to EU rules, the Postdoc must be EU national or come from an
associated member state (see website) and be younger than 35. More relevant
for the group's operation is that he/she has an interest in computational
and/or analytical work related to astrophysical winds, stellar coronal
heating, or hydro- or magnetohydrodynamic modeling in general.
The group at Rijnhuizen concentrates on linear - spectral - studies and
nonlinear plasma dynamics in both laboratory and astrophysical settings.
Extensive expertise in computational magneto-fluid dynamics is at the core
of the group effort, with both general-purpose software packages [e.g. the
Versatile Advection Code, see http://www.phys.uu.nl/~toth] as well as
problem-tailored codes in active use and under continuous development.
Simultaneously, analytic modeling of flowing plasmas serves as a solid
backbone to scrutinize and evaluate the outcome of large-scope numerical
simulations. In a Netherlands-based effort on 'Massively Parallel
Computing' [see http://www.phys.uu.nl/~mpr] led by the Rijnhuizen group,
similar active team collaborations as envisaged in the PLATON network have
been realized.
More information on salary/location/duration and ongoing and planned
research activities can be obtained by contacting Hans Goedbloed
(goedbloed AT rijnh.nl)
or Rony Keppens
(keppens AT rijnh.nl).
If considered
appropriate, a visit to Rijnhuizen prior to the fill-in of the postdoc
position can be arranged for meeting in person.
