Workshop on Nuclear Resonant Scattering
-- Towards building a dedicated NRS beamline in China

Place: Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences,
Beijing, China
Date: January 19-21, 2017

A dedicated nuclear resonant scattering (NRS) beamline is being considered
for the
upcoming High Energy Photon Source (HEPS), which is expected to be built in
Beijing,
China in two years. We are going to hold a workshop on NRS (1st nuclear
resonant
scattering workshop in China) at the Institute of High Energy Physics,
Beijing on January
20-22, 2017, and prepare a report that will become part of the “Scientific
Case for HEPS”.
In this workshop, the following topics will be covered: 1) Important
scientific problems
that can be addressed by NRS techniques in various fields like geophysics,
biochemistry,
and materials science. 2) Beamlines and instrumentation development for NRS:
current
status and future development at low emittance storage ring (ESRF-U, APS-U,
SPring8-U,
and PETRA-IV); 3) Advice to NRS beamline team at HEPS in terms of beam
requirements
and sample environments. 4) Recent research results of prominent Chinese
groups on high
pressure science, superconductors, magnetism, biochemistry and catalyst that
is using or
will use the nuclear resonant scattering techniques (forward scattering and
inelastic
scattering). The main purpose of the workshop is to write up a report to
support the
construction of the NRS beamline at HEPS.
