Dear Colleagues,

in honor of the late Prof. Rudolf L. Moessbauer, who died on September 14, 2011, in his hometown Muenchen, I have organized a Scientific Colloquium that will take place in the Magnus-Haus Berlin of the German Physical Society on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, beginning at 16:00 h s.t.; the title of the Colloquium is 'Rudolf L. Moessbauer (1929-2011): His science and its future impact'. Rudolf Moessbauer had received the Nobel Prize in physics on Dec. 10, 1961, at the age of only 32 for his doctoral-thesis discovery of the 'recoil-free resonance fluorescence of nuclear gamma rays', the Moessbauer effect.

There will be six 20-minutes invited talks at this colloquium, presented by experts in their mutual fields, where highlights in applications of the Moessbauer effect to various fields of science will be presented as well as Moessbauer's role in neutrino research. Thereafter, all six speakers will answer questions from the audience in a round-table discussion. Finally, an 'Open microphone' will give all participants an opportunity for brief statements on aspects not covered by the talks or on personal experiences. After the scientific part, there will be a 'Nachsitzung' with food and drinks in the Magnus-Haus.

In the attachment, you will find an invitation flyer to this Colloquium, with more details of the program as well as a link for registration. If you should need help for finding a suitable hotel in Berlin, please contact the office manager at the Magnus-Haus, Mrs. Gisela Ranft, E-mail: magnus AT dpg-physik.de

I am looking forward to meeting you soon in the Magnus-Haus Berlin.

Sincerely,

Guenter Kaindl
Scientific Director, Magnus-Haus Berlin
German Physical Society
