Cím: Active functional terahertz emitters enabled by spatial and
temporal control

Functional terahertz (THz) emitters are devices that integrate THz generation
and manipulation processes together. Compared with traditional cases of
separate THz generation devices and manipulation devices, they are much more
compact while free from additional THz insertion and bandwidth losses.
However, related studies so far are mainly working passively. This report
introduces two types of functional THz emitters that allow active control of
the THz emissions: one is a 2D programmable photonic THz phased array via
spatially selective excitation of nonlinear metasurfaces, enabling dynamic
beamforming, imaging, and vortex beam generation in a broadband frequency
range over 0.8-1.4 THz. The other is a uniform ITO-film platform that enables
ultrafast temporal modulation of THz emission under optical pump, achieving
sub-picosecond amplitude (80%), spectral (15%) and polarization tuning. These
works highlight the potential of integrating spatial and temporal modulation
strategies to create versatile, high-speed, and programmable THz emitters,
paving the way for next-generation THz technologies in communications, radar,
and compact spectral systems.

Cím: On-chip integrated meta-devices for terahertz communications

This presentation focuses on-chip integrated meta-devices for terahertz (THz)
communications. We first demonstrate multifunctional surface wave couplers
for THz wireless receivers that simultaneously identifies frequency,
polarization, and orbital angular momentum while enabling selective on-chip
routing. This device integrates mode recognition, free-space-to-chip
coupling, and demultiplexing into a single platform, with its communication
performance validated through a practical testbed. Furthermore, we present
all-silicon on-chip THz devices developed via inverse design and effective
refractive index engineering. Using an add-drop filter as a representative
example, we show that this approach achieves excellent on-chip functionality
with high efficiency and compact footprint. These advances provide new
pathways toward miniaturized, multifunctional THz communication systems and
accelerate the practical deployment of meta-optics in high-speed wireless
networks.
