Bálint Seli (Konkoly Observatory, Hungary):
The solar and stellar FIP effect

The chemical composition of the solar photosphere and the corona are
different, the abundance difference scales with the first ionization
potential (FIP) of the elements. This mysterious phenomenon, known as the FIP
effect, is one of the major open questions in solar physics. Thanks to the
growing number of stellar X-ray observations, it is now clear that stars
other than the Sun also exhibit similar abundance anomalies. In this talk, we
discuss what we currently know about the solar and stellar FIP effect, and
what our research group managed to uncover a few years ago.
