Mark Westmoquette: Staying Connected to Wonder in a World of Data 

Astronomy is the most awe-inspiring branch of physics! It sparks imagination 
and ignites a deep curiosity and wonder about the cosmos in kids and adults 
alike. But in the day-to-day of professional work, that emotional connection 
can fade. Immersed in analysis and abstraction, we risk losing touch with the 
wonder that drew us to it in the first place. As a postdoc I realised I was 
living in thoughts <about> the cosmos rather than feeling and experiencing, 
and that changed course of my life. This talk explores how to reconnect with 
awe - not only as scientists, but as human beings. Through reflection and 
simple embodied practices, I’ll show how we can re-find wonder and let it 
infuse our work and our lives with renewed vitality and purpose.
