Kristina G. Kislyakova (University of Vienna): Detection of astrospheres and 
stellar winds of main sequence stars in X-rays


Stellar winds of FGKM main-sequence stars play a pivotal role in the 
evolution of planetary atmospheres, but are extremely difficult to constrain 
observationally. In this talk, I present estimates of stellar mass-loss rates 
based on the soft X-ray emission produced by charge exchange between heavy 
ions of the stellar wind and cold neutrals of the interstellar medium 
surrounding several main sequence stars. I will talk about the origins of 
this method, its limitations and future development, and elaborate why 
estimating mass-loss rates of active stars is crucial for understanding the 
evolution of stellar winds and rotation and the connection between mass-loss 
rates and X-ray fluxes. I will also talk about the influence of stellar winds 
on planetary atmospheres and exoplanets' habitability.
