Absztrakt:
Hundred years ago Werner Heisenberg published the very first paper of modern
quantum theory [1], formulating the basics of "matrix mechanics" [2, 2a]. It
is very remarkable that earlier, in that same year 1925 (but before the
invention of matrix mechanics), Heisenberg together with H. A. Kramers
derived the correct (quantum mechanical) dispersion formula of light
scattering by atoms, by using classical considerations and the correspondence
principle [1a]. In the present talk first we attempt to keep track of the
development of quantum theory around the time of this discovery. As is
well-know, in quantum mechanics even the kinematics of the motion of a
microparticle is reinterpreted, so that the position and momentum (velocity)
are described by non-commuting quantities, which is in sharp contrast with
our classical concept of motion. The transition from micro- to macromechanics
has been discussed by Heisenberg, partly in terms of his "uncertainty
relation" [3], which we will also deal with. Finally we shall talk about the
famous "Drei Männer Arbeit" (three men's work) of Born, Heisenberg and Jordan
[2], submitted also in the year 1925, which - besides giving solutions to
several fundamental problems constituting today basic parts of any standard
texts on quantum mechanics - published a first preliminary version of field
quantization [2], or in other words, the quantization of a continuous
dynamical system. As an application of the new formalism, they derived
Einstein's fluctuation formula expressing the "wave-paritcle duality" for
radiation [4]. This result is a basis e.g. of the so-called Hanbury Brown and
Twiss type correlations.
