Effects of Microplastics on Soil Properties and Wheat Crop Productivity in Tropical Agroecosystem of UP, India.
(Dissertation work of M.Sc Environmental Science)
Here, we investigated the possible effects of microplastics on physicochemical properties of soil and in turn on productivity of wheat crop. Significant changes were observed in root biomass, total biomass, bulk density, soil moisture, root-shoot ratio and electrical conductivity of soil. Factors responsible for increased productivity seemed to be elicited due to microplastic contamination. Preliminary findings reported here imply that the pervasive microplastic contamination in soil may show positive effects for agroecosystems.

Title: Measurement of the photoionization cross-section of autoionizing resonances of Xenon
We observed the autoionization resonance curve and measured photoionization cross-section for the excited states of the Xenon gas. using multi-step laser excitation and the saturation technique. Optimization of the photoionization signal was made by measuring it on the autoionization resonance peak.

Title: Fluorescence spectroscopy (FS) and chemometric techniques for analysing Mycobacterium tuberculosis
The study presents an investigation into the use of fluorescence spectroscopy (FS) and chemometric techniques for analysing Mycobacterium tuberculosis in acid-fast bacillus (AFB) cultures. Samples, collected from TB-suspected patients in various regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, were cultured at the Provincial TB Reference Lab, Peshawar. Fluorescence spectra exhibited differences between TB positive, TB negative, and cultured media samples, with distinct peaks at 467 nm and 490 nm. Principal component analysis (PCA) effectively clustered the data into three groups based on fluorescence emission features. The findings propose FS as an alternative confirmation tool for mycobacterium detection through AFB culture, offering a fast, cost-effective, and user-friendly method for early detection.
Currently Ph.D. fellow students at the Department of Optics and Quantum Electronics, University of Szeged, their research topic is focused on the theoretical and experimental investigation of the mid-IR spectrum of airborne aerosol particles.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
