Nanotubes: Encapsulation Methods and Chemical Reactions - PhD házi
védésThursday, 22 June 2023, 10:00, KFKI Campus, Bldg. 1, 2nd floor,
Conference RoomSexithiophene molecules are encapsulated using two
encapsulation methods: one usually used in the literature which requires high
temperature, and another using supercritical carbon dioxide at low
temperature. It is shown how polymerization occurs during the encapsulation
using the high temperature method. Additionally, as this precursor has
similar characteristics to graphene nanoribbon (GNR) precursors, their
synthesis is attempted from this molecule. However, it could be evidenced
that this molecule does not form GNRs. The synthesis of graphene nanoribbons
is reported from a new precursor 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene. This precursor is a
liquid and has several advantages for encapsulation and product formation.
Graphene nanoribbons several nanometers long are prepared inside
single-walled carbon nanotubes and the 6-armchair graphene nanoribbon is
detected. The above synthesis is also performed in boron nitride nanotubes
where the nanoribbon formation has not been as successful so far as inside
carbon nanotubes. The significance of producing graphene nanoribbons using
boron nitride nanotubes lies in the transparent nature of these tubes which,
contrary to carbon nanotubes, allows obtaining information of the reaction
products in a wide optical range. Join Zoom
