optical circuitry involving electrically insulating media offers a promising
avenue toward the ultrafast switching of signals at petahertz switching
rates. The response of insulators to the electric field of an incoming
optical pulse can enable signal operations with unprecedented speed, within a
millionth of a billionth of a second. In Wigner at Ultrafast Nanoptics group
we showed that this ultrafast response can be initiated with a small and
simple laser device with much lower laser pulse energy than in previous
experiments [Hanus et al., Optica 8, 570 (2021)]. This demonstration paves a
new way toward miniaturization and on-chip integration of petahertz
