In addition to our regular seminars, the *2021 Spring seminar series* of 
the Konkoly Observatory features exciting topics presented by leading 
scientists of their respective fields.

The first speaker, *Ashish Mahabal* is an astronomer at the California 
Institute of Technology (Caltech), a world-renowned expert in 
computational and data science. He is one of the leaders of the Zwicky 
Transient Facility survey that scans the entire Northern sky every few 
days, looking for variable and transient events – from near-Earth 
asteroids through variable stars to extragalactic objects. He will speak 
about the power of archives in the era of machine learning on 18 March 
(Thursday) at 6 p.m.
