Dear Colleagues,

This Friday, our research group at the BME Department of Theoretical Physics
will host the following online talk:

Speaker: Hongming Weng (Beijing)
Title: Topological Materials from Layer Constructions: LaSbTe and BaHgSn
family
Time: July 24 Friday, 9:15
Location: online in Microsoft Teams (see link below)

Abstract: "In this talk, I will discuss about the topological invariants and
corresponding boundary states based on symmetry indicator and/or topological
quantum chemistry theory. The layer construction scheme is used to build up
the mapping from symmetry indicators to topological invariants. Two family
materials LaSbTe and BaHgSn will be discussed to show how these theories can
be applied. The topological materials database http://materiae.iphy.ac.cn
<http://materiae.iphy.ac.cn/> is also introduced."

About the speaker: "Hongming Weng is a professor of Institute of Physics,
Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is mainly interested in topological and
magnetic materials, including topological insulators, topological semimetals,
multiferroic and diluted magnetic semiconductors. Based on first-principles
calculations, he has successfully predicted several topological materials,
including Dirac semimetal Na3Bi and Cd3As2, Weyl semimetal TaAs and layered
topological insulators ZrTe5 and HfTe5. These theoretical proposals have been
experimentally confirmed and widely studied in the community. He was awarded
Nishina Asia Award in 2017 by Japan Nishina memorial foundation for his
theoretical contribution to discovery of Weyl semimetals."
