Cosmic super particle-accelerators
Kivonatos ismertetés:
There exist very exotic places in the universe where extremely energetic, non-thermal processes are occurring. The abundant messengers from such objects are ultra-high cosmic ray particles, and nowadays also TeV gamma rays and astrophysical neutrinos are observed. There are exciting questions about where are the objects that can produce such particles, which processes are responsible for this, what exactly are those cosmic ray particles, and how do they reach Earth? By answering those fundamental questions we may learn about galactic and extra-galactic magnetic fields, the nature and structure of extremely violent astrophysical objects, the interaction of ultra-high energy particles with their environment, and even fundamental physics much beyond the reach of human-made particle accelerators like LHC.
