"Switching between Bloch- and Néel-type magnetic skyrmions"



Kivonat: Magnetic skyrmions are nanometric whirling spin textures,
emerging in crystals with broken spatial inversion symmetry. They
often form two-dimensional periodic lattices, i.e. magnetic crystals
within the original crystal structure of the host materials. The internal
spin texture of the magnetic unit cell, defining the character of the
individual skyrmions building up such skyrmion crystals, depends on the
symmetry of the host crystals. There are three basic types of skyrmions
existing: Bloch- and Néel-type skyrmions and antiskyrmions. Since their
character is dictated by the crystal symmetry of the host compound, they
are expected to be mutually exclusive in real materials. In the talk, I
will introduce the zoology of skyrmions, describe the magnetic interactions
responsible for their formation and present some examples when the exclusion rule, mentioned above, does not hold.
