"The spin charm of 2D materials"

Graphene and novel atomic two-dimensional materials offer
fascinating prospects for the physics of the electron spin.
Unprecedented new spin phenomena have recently emerged due
to the possibility of so called proximity effects, in which
one materials “borrows” properties, such as spin-orbit coupling
or exchange, from its neighbor. Optospintronics, valleytronics,
novel topological states, electrical tunability of spin properties,
are premier examples of what is being currently investigated in
this field. Moreover, with the recent discoveries of 2D
ferromagnetism and superconductivity, giving new wings to
our imagination on how spin phenomena can be engineered, the
spin “charm” of the 2D materials becomes even more alluring.
