One of the promising ways to realize a quantum computer is holonomic
quantum computation, where quantum gates are realized by using Berry
phases. However, this approach requires long coherent runtimes due to the
requirement of adiabaticity. We have shown[1] that holonomic quantum
computation can be dramatically accelerated using suitably tailored pulses
of external control fields (or even by using noise control), whose
effectiveness is exclusively determined by their time-integral. This
control scheme can be realized with net zero energy cost and it is
fault-tolerant against fluctuations and noise, which relaxes the
experimental constraints significantly. We demonstrate how to realize this
scheme via decoherence-free subspaces. In this way we unify quantum
robustness merits of this fault-tolerant control scheme, conventional
holonomic quantum computation, and decoherence-free subspaces, and propose
a faster holonomic quantum computation protocol.
