Subject: DP-PMI - Call open for the Doctoral Programme in the Physics and
Mathematics of Information
To:
Dear Colleagues,
We are happy to announce the opening of the call for applications to the
new edition of the Doctoral Programme in the Physics and Mathematics of
Information: Foundations of Future Information Technologies
<http://www.dp-pmi.org/> (DP-PMI), starting in September 2017.
The DP-PMI aims at providing advanced curricular and research training in
the recent developments and fundamental challenges in information sciences
and technologies, namely in:
1. Classical and Quantum Information Theory;
2. Classical and Quantum Logic, Computation and Machine Learning;
3. Classical and Quantum Information Security and Communications;
4. Nanoenergetics and Quantum Thermodynamics;
5. Ultimate limits to precision measurements and navigation.
The DP-PMI is hosted by Instituto Superior <http://www.ist.utl.pt/en/>
Tecnico <http://www.ist.utl.pt/en/> (IST), the School of Science and
Engineering of the University of Lisbon, in Portugal, and seven associated
research centres <http://www.dp-pmi.org/faculty.html>.
The programme is funded <http://www.dp-pmi.org/support.html> mainly by a
2.2 MEuro grant from the Portuguese Science Foundation
<http://www.fct.pt/index.phtml.en> (FCT). The DP-PMI started in January
2014 and currently has 27 students (20 male + 7 female) from 11 different
nationalities. The programme will recruit up to 13 students in this call,
and overall will train 40 doctoral students by 2021.
The *Doctoral Programme in the Physics and Mathematics of Information* aims
at recruiting top-level students at the global scale, and train them in a
multidisciplinary and international setting. The applications for the
DP-PMI are very competitive, with an average success rate of around 15%.
The applications <http://www.dp-pmi.org/applications.html> for the new
edition of the DP-PMI are open until *30 April 2017*.
