Helyszín: MTA Atomki, nagyelőadó (4026 Debrecen, Bem tér 18/c)

Előadás: European Spallation Source –
Power converters for particle accelerators /
Radiofrequency systems for ESS warm linac

Előadó:
- Carlos De Almeida Martins, leader of Power Converters Section, European
Spallation Source ERIC (Sweden)
- Pedro J. Gonzalez, technology director, ESS Bilbao (Spain)

Kivonat:
The previous seminar was held on the occasion of ESS representatives’ visit
at Atomki. Now we are glad to have other two experts here to discuss the
details of our in-kind cooperation.

Power converters for particle accelerators: How do you power the world’s most
powerful linear accelerator? A prototype of the Stacked Multi-Level (SML)
Modulator was developed at ESS. One SML Modulator will power four klystrons,
each serving one of the accelerator's dozens of super-conducting cavities
that sequentially accelerate the facility's proton beam.

RF Systems for ESS warm linac: ESS Bilbao is the institution in charge of the
Spanish contribution to the European Spallation Source under construction in
Lund (Sweden). One of the work packages is related to the RF power systems
for the warm linac (RFQ, MEBT and DTL sections), comprising modulators,
klystrons and SSPA (Solid State Power Amplifiers), waveguide and coaxial
distribution networks, low level RF (LLRF) controls, and RF local protection
system (interlocks).
