Skyrmions in frustrated magnets

Kivonat:

Magnetic skyrmions are novel topological defects with unusual physical
properties. They have been recently observed in helimagnets with a
non-centrosymmetric cubic lattice. Magnets with competing spin
interactions form a new class of materials where skyrmions can be found
[1]. Statical and dynamical properties of skyrmions in frustrated magnets
are much richer than those of skyrmions in helimagnets. Frustrated
skyrmions have topological charge 1 and 2, arbitrary sign of vorticity and
an arbitrary helicity angle. The strong inter-skyrmion attraction gives
rise to their clustering in high magnetic fields and topological skyrmion
liquids at nonzero temperatures. Skyrmion crystals and other multi-*q*
states in the model with competing exchange interactions on a triangular
lattice result from the easy axis anisotropy. This model has a very rich
phase diagram, which has been studied using Monte-Carlo simulations.
