Applications are invited to work with Drs Gregor Tanner and Stephen Creagh
on an Industry and Academia Partnerships and Pathways (IAPP-FP7) project
Mid-to-High Frequency Modelling of Vehicle Noise and Vibration (MHiVec).
MHiVec is a collaborative project between the University of Nottingham,
Nottingham Trent University, the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research
at the University of Southampton, InuTech GmbH, CDH AG, and Jaguar Land
Rover. The fellow will therefore be expected to collaborate with both
academic and industrial partners on the project.

The researcher will work on new modelling tools for describing the flow of
vibrational energy through complex built-up structures at high frequencies
(using the Discrete Flow Mapping (DFM) approach). The methods are based on
techniques developed in the context of wave asymptotics at short
wavelengths; these techniques will be transferred as part of the project to
describe noise & vibration levels for realistic vehicle models. The
fixed-term post offered is aimed in particular at the development of
techniques to treat wave-energy transfer across interfaces within DFM
theory. Furthermore, the fellow will be responsible for the numerical
implementation of the algorithms in a multi-developer software environment.

The candidates will be expected to have a PhD in a relevant discipline or
equivalent (mechanical engineering, applied mathematics or physics), or
have more than some research experience in the named disciplines since
having obtained theirfirst degree at a HE institution. In addition, they
are expected to have advanced knowledge in numerical linear algebra and
numerical programming skills in at least one of MATLAB or C++, a good
command of English and an enthusiasm for working in an international and
inter-disciplinary research environment. Experience in the theory and
implementation of numerical methods for solving wave equations is
desirable. Candidates should be confident, organised, have good
communication skills and enjoy working as part of a team as well as
independently. The successful candidates will be expected to contribute to
the publication of scientific papers, and to their dissemination at
relevant workshops and conferences. They should have evidence that the
quality and quantity of their previous research outputs are commensurate
with their level of experience.

Applicants will be required to meet the Marie Curie eligibility criteria
for Experienced Researchers(less than 10 years' experience)

but in either instance no more than 10 years of research experience since
having obtained their first degree at a HE institution.
