In this presentation I will summarize the main physics goals of the LHC 
collider and its experiments at CERN. Then I will go through some of the 
highlights of the past few years, from construction and commissioning to 
first data taking and recent high-statistics results. In particular, I 
will present the status of the searches for physics beyond the standard 
model, and most notably the search for the Higgs boson.
