PhD position
Laboratory of Plankton Ecology and Evolution
Stazione Zoologica A. Dohrn, Naples, Italy

Seeking a candidate for a PhD position to study the impact of life
strategies on phytoplankton species richness and abundance using a
modelling approach. The research will involve the development of a
novel 0-D multi-species model of population dynamics which explicitly
include selected life traits and original parameterizations of the
abiotic forcing. The candidate will also perform original
data analysis of time-series of plankton population and of the abiotic
forcing acting on them. The project will be conducted
in the framework of a collaborative study and will offer the
possibility of interacting with physical oceanographers, plankton
biologists and theoretical ecologists.

Any candidate must have a strong background in numerical modelling and
statistics. Knowledge in the oceanography, complexity or theoretical
ecology is a plus.
