Synchrotron radiation with its properties presents a "supermicroscope"
which provides insight view into the world of atoms and molecules. X-ray
emission and absorption spectroscopy are two among basic analytical
methods used routinely at synchrotron facilities and exploit tunability
and high energy resolution of the monochromatic x-ray beams delivered by
the synchrotron. Resonant x-ray emission spectroscopy combines
photoexcitation by synchrotron radiation with the high energy resolution
x-ray emission spectroscopy employing crystal spectrometer. Such
combination is a very powerfull experimental tool for fundamental atomic
physics studies as well as for analytical purposes. I will present some
basic properties of such spectroscopy and some of our recent experiments
performed at Elettra and ESRF synchrotrons.
