Title: Sliding friction of 3D Lennard-Jones solids
Abstract:
Sliding friction of Lennard-Jones fcc solids for three-dimensional
system is studied using molecular dynamics simulation. The system is a
rectangular parallelepiped box with periodic boundary conditions and two
Nos\'e-Hoover heat baths with same temperatures are attached to the
regions near the both ends. For the commensurate case, it is shown that
this system obeys the Coulomb-Amonton law for static friction. It is
also found that the dynamic friction coefficient is nearly independent
of shear velocity for low velocity and load. In contrast, it is observed
that static and dynamic friction is vanishing for the incommensurate
case. Kinetic temperature profile is also investigated for each case.
