Prof. Colin J. Lambert
(Department of Physics, Lancaster University):
"Electron Transport through Carbon Nanotubes"

Kivonatos ismertetes:

Carbon nanotubes are candidates for molecular devices, because they can be
either metallic or semiconducting depending on their geometry. Apart from
their
huge technological promise, these structures provide a fascinating melting
pot
for studying fundamental phenomena of nanophysics. Indeed such studies are
necessary if the full device potential of single molecules is to be realised.

In this talk I shall present an introduction to phase-coherent electron
transport in carbon nanotubes and show how electronic properties can be tuned
by geometric features such as twists and bends. Properties of nested
nanotubes
will also be discussed, along with the magneto-resistive properties of
nanotubes connected to ferromagnetic electrodes.
