"A Raman study of competing ordering phenomena in cuprates"

Abstract: Raman (inelastic light) scattering is a relatively new
and alternative method to study electronic properties such as the
conductivity. In addition to infrared spectroscopy some resolution
in k-space can be achieved which allows, for instance, to measure
the momentum dependence of the energy gap of a superconductor. In
my presentation I will discuss results of inelastic light
scattering experiments in copper oxygen compounds in the normal
and in the superconducting state. The strong doping dependence of
the transport properties in the normal state, the tendency to
charge ordering at low doping and the renormalization at $T_c$ of
the response at high energies will be addressed.
