Abstract:
---------

Ferrites are very interesting magnetic materials which have various
applications in industry and technology. Their properties are mostly
dependant on the crystal structure which have more than one type of cation
site and the distribution of the cation in the anion lattice. By varying
the number of magnetic and non magnetic cations and the cation
distribution, the magnetisation of the ferrite can be modulated.

In the nano-crystalline phase, the ferrites show very interesting changes
in properties: the cation distribution changes with size and this leads
to anomalous magnetic behavior. Magnetisation and Mossbauer studies reveal
that spin clustering occurs in the ferrites which is manifest in anomalous
behavior.

Some bulk ferrites also show spin clustering when controlled synthesis is
carried out for specific cation distribution.

Spin clustering is important in application materials as these materials
show strong magnetic anisotropy.
