EXMATEC 2002

Call for Papers

6th International Workshop on
Expert Evaluation & Control of Compound Semiconductor Materials & Technologies

26-29 May 2002
Budapest, Hungary

Invitation

You are kindly solicited to participate and to present your latest results at the only specialized conference devoted to the evaluation, characterization and control of the compound semiconductor materials and technologies, at the EXMATEC 2002. An effective personal and informal exchange of new ideas, attempts, results, failures, thoughts must help in effectiveness of our separate, individual and common aspirations.
EXMATEC 2002 is the continuation of successful biannial meetings, previously held in Lyon, Parma, Freiburg, Cardiff and Heraklion. It will be held in a conference format with both oral invited and contributed presentations as well as poster papers. The Organizers hope that both the scientific level of the Workshop program and the attractive conference site will meet your highest requirements.

Scope

EXMATEC 2002 is the continuation of successful, biannial meetings, previously held in Lyon, Parma, Freiburg, Cardiff and Heraklion. Contributions fall within the scope of EXMATEC as long as they treat issues of material fabrication, characterization and processing of compound semiconductors. Works on devices are also appropriate in this context. The central topics are development, improvement and application of new and advanced methods in the fabrication and evaluation of compound semiconductor materials and structures to develop understanding of the interrelationship between structural, electrical and other material properties and device characteristics, such as performance, reliability, reproducibility, lifetime, yield, etc. The conference topics apply to all compound semiconductor materials, related structures and processing steps.

Topics

Topics include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:

* Narrow, intermediate and wide gap III-V, IV-IV, II-VI, II-IV-V2 based compound materials and devices

* Substrates, bulk and surface properties, post growth treatment, growth control and assessment, large diameter wafers
* Epi-layers, wafer bonding, band gap engineering, compliant substrates, growth control and characterization, selective deposition, ion implantation, hydrogenation, etc.
* Control of interfaces, surface structure, substrate pre-processing, vertical structures, lattice mismatch, phase separation, undulations, atomic ordering, ripple, etc.
* Quantum dots, low dimensional structures, other nano-structures

* Epitaxy of group III nitrides (GaN, GaAlN, GaAsN, GaPN, GaInN, etc.)
* Photonic crystals and related devices: processing and characterization

* Development, fabrication, modeling and evaluation of compound microelectronic and optoelectronic MEMS/MOEMS devices
* Reliability, physics of failure and characterization of degradation mechanisms
* Process monitoring, characterization of growth, structures, devices, and use of statistical process control techniques
* Instrumentation, standardization, innovative and improved characterization techniques

Language

The official language of the conference is English.

Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is an economic, financial and cultural centre with two million inhabitants. The city, which is beautifully situated on both sides of the river Danube, has a 2000 year-old history. There are relics from the time of the Roman Empire as well as from the Middle Ages. However, it mainly reflects the atmosphere of the end of the 19th century. There are lots of museums, theatres and concert halls, plenty of restaurants and other places of amusement. Several baths offer the pleasure of medicinal thermal waters of mineral springs. As Budapest is a traffic junction in Central Europe, it can be easily reached by air, train, car or hydrofoil.
